The Future of Pathology Award was established in 2020 with the goal to recognize and reward students and trainees who have a special interest in the field of Pathology. Applicants may be students ranging from the high school and college levels to medical school, as well as residents and fellows.

2021 Future of Pathology Award Recipients
Michelle colbert
Michelle Colbert is a fourth-year medical student at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona (go Suns!) and went to Arizona State University for her undergraduate degree. Her current research includes establishment of distinct immunohistochemical staining patterns in interface dermatidities with comparable morphological differentials. She is interested in dermatopathology and is applying for residency this year.
Ann-marie ming honFuture of Pathology Award - 2nd Place
Ann-Marie Ming Hon is an aspiring Forensic Pathologist and Neuropathologist from Trinidad and Tobago, and current fourth-year MBBS student at The University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus. She is expected to complete her degree in 2022 after which she hopes to pursue postgraduate training in pathology in the United States. Ms. Ming Hon is the founder of The Pathology Club of UWI, the first club of its kind in the history of the University of the West Indies that aims to increase Caribbean medical student's interest in pathology and laboratory medicine. She is also co-founder of the Caribbean Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Student Initiative that aims to expose Caribbean medical students to various fields within the scope of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Ms. Ming Hon is dedicated to serving her community and mentoring aspiring pathologists like herself.

henrietta fasanyaFuture of Pathology Award - 3rd Place
Henrietta Fasanya is currently an MD/PhD candidate completing her fourth year of medical school at the University of Florida. In 2012, Henrietta earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biology at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. Dr. Fasanya, began the MD/PhD program at the University of Florida in 2013. She completed her PhD in Biomedical Sciences with a dual concentration in Cancer Biology and Clinical and Translational Science. Her dissertation work under the tutelage of Dr. Dietmar Siemann, investigated the role of a family of tumor secreted proteases call cathepsins and their role in metastatic osteosarcoma . As a graduate student she received the McKnight Doctoral and TL1 translational science fellowships. She was also awarded the University of Florida Cancer Center Pre-Doctoral Award for her thesis work. During her first two years as a medical student she spent was an active member of her local SNMA chapter and served as the community service chair. As a fourth year medical student, she has shown a passion for the field of pathology and is currently applying to pathology residencies. She is interested in increasing medical student interest in the field of pathology and plans to pursuit a career as a women's health pathologist with a focus on gynecological and cytopathology.
